Where 2025 Cards’ Team Ranks
Of the 25 Cardinals teams that played baseball in April this century (excluding 2020), the 2025 squad’s mark of 13-17 ranks as the club’s third worst.
Overall, that .433 winning percentage ranks ahead of only 2023, when St. Louis limped its way to a 10-18 (.357) record in April, and the 2007 squad that entered May at 10-14 (a .417 winning percentage).
In 2023, the Cards finished 71-91 (a .438 winning percentage), the franchise’s worst record since they went 62-81 (.434) during the shortened 1995 campaign.
Despite Wednesday’s 6-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, the slow start in the Gateway has seen St. Louis Cardinals playoff odds dip. In neighboring Kansas, DraftKings Sportsbook has +750 odds on the Cardinals to make the playoffs, as opposed to a -1100 line that St. Louis misses out for the third consecutive year.
St. Louis will look to right the ship in May with Thursday’s finale of a four-game road series against the Reds. Then the Cards host the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates in a six-game homestand that runs from Friday through May 7.
With any luck, the Cardinals can turn their April sorrows into May prosperity as they look to gain ground on the archrival Chicago Cubs, who lead the National League Central.
