The 2025 MLB race to the playoffs is heating up as we await the Missouri sports betting launch later this year, with other teams falling well short of expectations and making changes in the dugout.

With that in mind, BetMissouri.com wanted to break down the odds for which MLB manager will join Brandon Hyde of the Baltimore Orioles, Bud Black of the Colorado Rockies, Derek Shelton of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Dave Martinez of the Washington Nationals on the firing line. Here are our odds on which manager will get axed next:

Which MLB Manager Is Favored To Go Next?

The top candidate to go next is in his eighth season with the ‘Bronx Bombers,’ as Aaron Boone looks to keep his job after a disastrous stretch between June 1 and early August. During that time, the Yankees have gone 25-31 (.446), moving them 5.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East race and two-and-a-half games back of the Boston Red Sox for second place in the five-team division.

With New York dropping each of the team’s first four games in August, including a three-game road sweep at the hands of the red-hot Miami Marlins and come-from-ahead defeat against the Texas Rangers in Arlington on Monday night, now might be the time for Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman to make a move, as the Yankees have clearly stagnated on the diamond of late.

Another leading candidate to join the four MLB managers who have gotten a golden parachute in 2025 is Rocco Baldelli of the Minnesota Twins, who has missed the playoffs four of the last five seasons, with this year’s team sitting at 52-60 and 13 games behind the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central race.

Though Minnesota’s leadership might give Baldelli extra time after dumping 11 players from the team’s 26-man roster at the trade deadline, including shortstop Carlos Correa, we’re still expecting Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey and GM Jeremy Zoll to contemplate a change on the bench, either during the season or shortly thereafter, as the Twins skid their way towards a second straight season of watching the MLB postseason on TV like the rest of us.

Other Candidates To Be Ousted Next

Another name to keep in mind when it comes to in-season managerial changes is Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who is currently the third-longest tenured manager in the NL (behind Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Brian Snitker of the Atlanta Braves).

Lovullo has suffered from the burden of lofty expectations ever since Arizona made a surprise run to the World Series in 2023, going 89-73 in 2024 and 54-59 this season, though Arizona finished outside of the postseason last fall and are on pace to do the same this year.

Given Lovullo’s lack of postseason success outside of 2023 (which was the lone season he led Arizona to the playoffs), it seems like change might be in store in the Valley in 2025, which is part of the reason why we have him listed alongside Oliver Marmol of the St. Louis Cardinals at +540 to be the next skipper canned.

For Marmol, success has been evasive since leading the Cardinals to a 93-69 record back in 2022, going 71-91, 83-79 and 57-57 ever since, with this year’s team sitting 5.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the Senior Circuit, potentially leading to his ouster in 2025. Follow our St. Louis Cardinals playoff odds page here.

Barring a late season charge by the NL Central stalwarts, Marmol might join the four men that have already been given walking orders in ‘The Show,’ though he’s far from the only skipper that’s currently on thin ice, with other veterans like Snitker (+725), Mark Kotsay of the Athletics (+900) and Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians (+1000) also listed on our MLB managerial firing odds board right now.

What we can say for sure is that with less than 50 games remaining in the MLB regular season, teams are looking hard at whether their gameday leaders are up for the task at hand, with more managers bound to get the slip before the regular season wraps up in late September.
