With four days until the Tuesday, July 15, Missouri deadline for direct mobile applications to be submitted, one major sportsbook has safely been recorded.
FanDuel officially submitted its application to the Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) for an untethered online sports betting license when the Show-Me State becomes the 39th state to offer and operate legalized sports betting on Dec. 1.
The state will issue up to 14 online and 19 retail sports betting licenses, and two of the online licenses will be untethered.
An untethered license allows sports operators to enter a particular market without partnering with a local casino or a professional sports team within the area. This allows the operator to retain full and complete control over their own operations and revenue.
FanDuel joins DraftKings as one of the first applicants for an untethered license, as the MGC will announce the selected operators on Friday, Aug. 15. Two days earlier, the MGC will hear cases from the operators that applied as to why they should be selected.
As the launch date approaches, the MGC has said it will provide updates on approved operators and the range of betting options available to consumers.
FanDuel’s application marks a significant step in the expansion of legal online betting in Missouri, with the potential to introduce regulated esports wagering to a new audience when the market opens later this year.
Other Dates to Keep on the Calendar
Licensing rules in the state are scheduled to become effective on Saturday, Aug. 30. All other partnered retail and online license applications must be completed by Friday, Sept. 12.
