Missouri sports betting handle reached about $325 million in September, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission's monthly reports. That is about 57% more than the $208 million wagered in August and the largest monthly total of fiscal 2027 so far. The start of football season pushed the number of wagers to 11.7 million, up 70% from August. But, revenue did not keep pace.
Handle Jumps While Revenue Slips
Taxable gross revenue came to about $15.5 million, down about 7% from $16.7 million in August and well below the $21.8 million reported in July. State sports wagering tax was about $1.6 million, compared with $1.7 million in August. Taxable revenue as a share of handle was 4.8% in September. It was 8.1% in August and 8.8% in July. Operators also deducted about $13.6 million in free play during the month.
Parlays Carried the Month
Football brought in about $95 million in handle, but parlays were larger at about $121 million, or 37% of all money wagered. The Commission's sport-by-sport detail shows the difference between parlay wagers and payouts was about 17% of parlay handle. On football it was about 3%. Those figures come before other deductions such as free play and federal taxes, so they are not the same as taxable revenue.
DraftKings Leads on Revenue
Mobile operators accounted for about $319 million of September handle, or 98%. Across MO betting apps, DraftKings took in about $129 million and reported $8.4 million in taxable revenue, more than half of the state total. FanDuel handled about $101 million but reported $3.8 million. Bet365 took in about $26 million in wagers and reported about $101,000 in taxable revenue. Circa Sports and two retail sportsbooks, Argosy Casino and Century Casino in Cape Girardeau, reported negative taxable gross revenue and owed no sports wagering tax.
Retail sportsbooks at Missouri casinos handled about $6.5 million, up from $3.2 million in August. Through the first three months of the fiscal year, Missouri sportsbooks have taken in about $780 million in handle, with $54 million in taxable revenue and $5.4 million in state tax.
