A Difficult Season Takes Shape

The Royals were swept in a three-game series at home by the New York Yankees in May, getting outscored by a combined 26-4 across the three games. In a June game against the New York Mets, three consecutive Royals errorson a single play allowed Carson Benge to score an inside-the-park home run, though Kansas City rallied to win that game 16-12. Kansas City has also dealt with several challenges across its pitching staff during the season.

Injuries Mount Across the Roster

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 22 with lower back tightness after exiting a July 20 win over the San Francisco Giants with back spasms. Manager Matt Quatraro said Witt's back remained stiff. Witt was selected to represent the American League at shortstop in the All-Star Game on July 14, marking his third consecutive All-Star selection and his first as a starter.

Pitcher Cole Ragans, the Royals' Opening Day starter, underwent elbow surgery and remains on the 60-day injured list. Left-hander Kris Bubic has also been on the 60-day injured list since developing elbow soreness in May, with an expected return in August. Fans checking Missouri betting apps have watched these injuries reshape the roster throughout the summer.

What Comes Next

With the Royals outside playoff position, the team faces decisions about its roster direction before the trade deadline. The team's outlook is also reflected in the Kansas City Royals World Series odds.
