The Kansas City Royals are searching for a new sports betting partner following Underdog’s withdrawal from the state’s sports wagering licensing process.
In September 2025, the Royals announced a multi-year partnership with Underdog that included a market-access agreement tied to the launch of legal sports betting in Missouri. The deal would have allowed the team to offer a Royals-branded mobile sportsbook once wagering became available statewide.
However, just days before Missouri sports betting officially went live, Underdog withdrew its application for a sports wagering license, effectively pausing the partnership’s betting rollout.
Underdog continues to operate its daily fantasy sports contests in Missouri under its existing DFS license.
How Missouri Sports Betting Partnerships Work
A sportsbook partnership in Missouri involves a betting operator teaming up with a professional team or casino to secure mobile and retail market access.
These agreements typically include branding across team platforms and stadiums, Missouri-only promotions tied to local teams or events, team-specific offers such as boosted odds, potential retail sportsbook lounges at partner casino properties, and integration with fan loyalty programs. Teams also support user acquisition through fan engagement campaigns and targeted sign-up offers.
Missouri Sports Betting Market
Missouri’s sports betting launched on December 1, 2025. Several major sports betting apps are live in the state through casino or mobile partnerships, including:
- BetMGM: Century Casinos (e.g., Century Casino Cape Girardeau)
- Fanatics Sportsbook: Boyd Gaming (Ameristar casinos)
- bet365: St. Louis Cardinals (MLB)
- FanDuel: St. Louis City SC (MLS)
- Caesars Sportsbook: Existing casinos (Harrah's, Horseshoe)
- theScore Bet: Penn Entertainment (Hollywood & River City Casinos)
- DraftKings & Circa Sports: Direct mobile licenses
The K.C. Royals’ search for a new sportsbook partner will determine which provider can offer team-branded betting, Missouri sportsbook promos, and other fan-facing wagering options in the state.
